The Global Supply Chain Problem

Published on 8 October 2021 at 09:35

It was bad enough when prognosticators hinted at Christmas being disrupted by a new COVID surge. We hurriedly covered our children's ears not wanting to frighten them of such a terrible prospect. Now it looks like there's a new Scrooge on the block and one that could prove more daunting than a global health alert.

The culprit, a global supply chain that has turned into a sticky, stalled mess. A breaker of holiday dreams. And sorry, no amount of clicking our heels or praying for divine intervention will improve this supply chain disaster. Sorry folks, you can just keep the Christmas stockings safely tucked away for another year. Think of the savings on holiday paper!! Early in the year, retailers hoped that bottlenecks that gummed up the global supply chain in 2020 would be largely cleared by now. They’ve actually gotten worse—much worse—and evidence is mounting that the holiday season is at risk.

Let's face it. What we desperately need is a national focus, The White House, and this Administration must to do something that's actually going to be meaningful and appreciated by all. Spare me with more meetings and analysis. We need more. Washington has to wake up before the holiday. We can surely summon state technical groups together (and rolling up idea ideas) marshal our Governors, call our legislators in Washington (callers will have to be the persuasive kind to get any response..) Congressional hearings would certainly be appropriate and timely. Let's get moving and solve this national crisis which is rapidly turning into a national security crisis. Action is needed because this is a real crisis.
